Vlad, Wesley and Kennedy are not with us in Romania but we hope two out of three will soon visit!

Where is Romania?
Romania is a country located at the crossroads of CentralEastern, and Southeastern Europe. It borders the Black Sea to south-east, Bulgaria to the south, Ukraine to the north, Hungary to the west, Serbia to south-west, and Moldova to the east. It has a predominantly temperate-continental climate. With a total area of 238,397 square kilometers (92,046 sq mi) similar to the size of Oregon.

Both our home in the village of Barghis and our apartment in Sibiu are located in Sibiu County which are in the area of Transylvania located in central Romania. The Carpathian mountains are in our horizon  and divide the country and can be traveled by the Transfăgărăşan highway

What time is it anyway?

Romania operates on the Eastern European Time Zone and follows daylight savings time. Romania is 10 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time.  If it is 7 AM in the Pacific Northwest it is 5 PM in Romania. If it is 9 PM in the Pacific Northwest on a Sunday, it is 7 AM Monday morning in Romania.

Every time we fly from Oregon to Romania we take three flights, total time door to door is usually 24 hours and a round trip fair usually ranges from $1000 to $1800 per ticket for reasonable connections in economy class. The longest flight is typically between 8-10 hours with the other two flights between 2-to three hours. After we complete a trip we swear we will fly business class but then we see the prices and always book economy and consider checking Madeline into the baggage : )

What is the weather like?

The weather is similar to Salem, Oregon however in Sibiu we are at a higher elevation of 1500 meters therefore we get snow...a lot of snow. There a four distinct seasons. Summers are warm with occasional very warm days but with intermittent rain drought is not an issue.
